Become a Chapter 2 Champion

We need your help!

We’re looking for several of our members to play an instrumental role in growing and supporting this special community built by widows for widows and widowers.

Chapter 2 offers many possibilities: a new significant relationship, fun and flirty chats, new friendships, companionship, access to an online community, or even a new start, relocation, or career. We support our members through their journey, respecting the love and loss that has shaped them.

I’m Nicky Wake, the founder of Chapter 2. As a widow, you can read my story here or watch my TEDx Manchester talk here. Chapter 2 is my passion project, supported by an amazing team of partners, freelancers, and investors.

What started as a side hustle has evolved into to a full time role (I own and run Don’t Panic Events) but Chapter 2 has very much become a full time job, 8 days a week to quote The Beatles! We don’t have budget for staff as we are investing every penny earned back into marketing to grow our platform and membership so I am appealing for help!

Creating an army of widow and widowers

We need your help to create an army of widow and widower warriors across the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada. The role includes:

  • Monitoring and Engagement: Contribute and respond to posts at least 3-4 times a week to welcome new members, add threads, respond to queries, help with debate and conversation, and report any concerning posts.
  • Hosting Meet-ups: Organize local meet-ups, even just coffee mornings. We’ll cover travel costs and promote the event through our website, emails, and social media.
  • Platform Oversight: Keep an eye on the platform and report any suspicious profiles or photos for review. i will delete and ban their accounts if necessary.
  • Events: Suggest ideas for larger gatherings like weekends away or trips.
  • Sharing Success Stories: Let us know if you or someone you know has a success story to share that I can share with our PR company.
  • Signposting: Direct members looking for casual flirty fun to WidowsFire.co.uk.
  • Fundraising: Help fundraise for our chosen charity, Widowed and Young in the UK, with more international charities to follow. I personally found them invaluable in the early stages of grief.
  • Press Participation: Be open to appearing in appropriate press opportunities. We will always run any opportunities by you and you can of course refuse if it’s not appropriate.
  • Zoom Calls: Attend Champion Zoom calls monthly or bi-monthly to connect and exchange ideas – we will occasionally try to do a few of these meet ups in a central point over dinner.
  • Event Attendance: Try to attend as many Chapter 2 events as possible; travel costs can be reimbursed.
  • Community Building: Use provided resources to build your local community, including tips on dating, friendship, and online safety.
  • Support Signposting: Guide struggling members to relevant support groups e.g. WAY, Samaritans, Citizen Advice Bureau etc.
  • Social Media Posting: Post regularly on Chapter 2 and WidowsFire social channels.
  • Advocacy: Be a champion and advocate for the platform.
  • Identify local media: Help us by identifying local media, TV, radio and press who may cover and promote us.
  • Podcast features: Introduce us to as many local widow ‘influencers’ or podcasters.

You can of course be as involved or not as suits you. We understand you may have jobs, commitments, kids or new partners to work around so we will be flexible.

In brief, we’d love your help!

This voluntary role offers free premium access for as long as you participate. Whether you are currently solo or have found a Chapter 2, we need a range of people at different stages of widowhood, and welcome representatives from the LGBTQ+ community.

We are hugely excited for our future and hope you can help as our membership grows daily.
