Become a Champion
Chapter 2 Champions – We need your help!
We’ve been blown away by the global response and been inundated with applications for membership, so we are looking for widows and widowers to volunteer to become a ‘Chapter 2 Champion’.
As a Champion, you can support the community in two ways: as an Online Champion, where you help administrate our forum, spread the word in your local community and Facebook groups digitally, or as a full Chapter 2 Champion, where you take on both online duties and host local meet ups, like simple coffee mornings or park picnics—no prior event experience required! This gives flexibility for those who want to contribute but prefer not to run events.
Our goal is to recruit a Chapter 2 Champion in every village, town, city, county, state, and country. We aim to build a global network of ‘widow warriors’ who support one another and grow our community.
We are a tiny tech startup founded by me, Nicky Wake, a UK-based widow (you can watch my story here), and supported by a team of freelancers so while we cannot offer a salary at this stage, as we expand, we’ll prioritize recruiting our core team from our Champions.
Online Champion Duties
Being an Online Champion will involve:
- Logging in to site at least 3 times a week
- Reviewing, commenting and posting on the forum
- Adding a location specific thread and monitoring / acting as admin and responding to comments in the thread (info will be sent on how to do this)
- Writing a simple blog post introducing you & your widowhood story for our Champions page
- Directing new members to our resources page for help and advice
- Signposting newer members to our blog for advice, specifically the following posts
- Is there ever a right time to start dating again?
- What makes the perfect dating profile?
- Finding a match
- Coffee anyone?
- Telling friends ad family you are dating
- The 2nd Chapter
- How to get the most out of your Chapter 2 membership
- Widow’s fire – the unspoken truths of sexual intimacy after grief
- New to online dating? We reveal the dating jargon you need to know
- Navigating the dating world – Beware of romance scammers
Also, recommend the following charities depending on your region:
- Widowed & Young (UK)
- Soaring Spirits (USA)
- First Light (Australia)
If you read a post that gives you cause for concern for a member’s mental health or implies they may be in danger, then sign post them to: samaritans.org
Alternatively, advise they call a local mental health charity and email founder nicky@chapter2dating.app who will provide safeguarding.
Chapter 2 Champion Duties
As well as the above online champion duties, Chapter 2 Champions will host local meet ups.
Local Meet Ups
As a Chapter 2 Champion, we would like you to host quarterly local meet ups. These can be simple coffee mornings, a stroll in a park, a lunch, dinner or even a night out at a bar or club – these are just a few ideas. We are open to any events that you think might be fun and allow new members to feel welcome. In the past we have done axe throwing, escape rooms and weekends away walking.
All participants will be expected to RSVP to nicky@chapter2dating.app, who will collate numbers and share attendees’ names and emails with the Champion ‘owning’ that event. All attendees will be expected to cover their own costs for entry, food and drink, parking etc. As a champion you may need to help divide the bill fairly.
Events are open to all widows and widowers regardless of membership status – we often find them a nice way to introduce people to our community without commitment of dating or membership costs.
We will send all Champions a pack of flyers and name labels to distribute at events, and a badge to add to your email signature with a link to chapter2dating.app.
You simply need to email nicky@chapter2dating.app with details of an event and we will post on our events page and include it in region specific newsletters.
Spreading the word!
Thank you
We can’t do this without your help. Our goal is to support others like us, but this is a passion project, and we’re barely breaking even with limited marketing resources compared to larger dating sites. If you can help, we’d be deeply grateful.
We’ll host quarterly Zoom calls for our Champions to discuss how we can assist you and improve the program. Your feedback and ideas are important to us.
As we grow and gain more resources, we plan to hold one-day conferences in each region to meet our Champions in person but in the meantime, if you’d like to chat via Zoom or Teams, just email me at nicky@chapter2dating.app, I always enjoy connecting with other widows and widowers.
